2.5" x 40" Watermaker Membrane Housing (1000 PSI Fiberglass Pressure Vessel)
This filament-wound fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) pressure vessel is purpose-built to serve as a watermaker membrane housing, giving sailors, yacht owners, and cruisers a dependable way to make fresh water at sea. Sized to house a single 2.5" x 40" reverse osmosis membrane element, it's a natural fit for the compact, high-pressure watermaker systems found aboard sailboats, catamarans, trawlers, and long-range cruising yachts, where reliable freshwater production is essential for extended passages and time spent at anchor.
Built using an advanced continuous filament winding process, the vessel shell is composed of continuous fiberglass impregnated with a heated epoxy resin system, resulting in a lightweight yet high-strength housing designed for the rigors of marine environments and continuous, long-term service life. Rated for a maximum operating pressure of 1,000 PSI (69 bar), this housing is well suited for the seawater desalination pressures required to drive a watermaker's RO membrane efficiently — a key consideration for cruisers relying on their watermaker as a primary water source offshore.
The housing is fitted with stainless steel end caps, secured by a stainless steel retaining device and sealed with double O-rings, providing a secure, leak-resistant closure that stands up to saltwater exposure. A finished white painted exterior gives the vessel a clean, corrosion-resistant, UV-stable appearance suited to the tight, sun-exposed installation spaces common on sailboats and yachts. It ships complete with mounting straps and saddles, making it straightforward to mount securely in a lazarette, engine room, or dedicated watermaker compartment. The vessel supports an allowable water pH range of 3–10 under normal operating conditions, and 2–12 during periodic cleaning cycles, giving sailors the flexibility needed to keep their watermaker membrane clean and performing well between passages.
