Low-Pressure Brackish Water RO Element with a Low-ΔP Feed Spacer
The LG BW 400 ES L is an 8-inch by 40-inch brackish water reverse osmosis element from LG Chem, built on its NanoH2O™ thin film nanocomposite (TFN) technology. It takes the energy-saving BW 400 ES design and adds a 34-mil low differential pressure feed spacer, which reduces pressure drop across the element without giving up flow or rejection. The element is intended for low to medium salinity brackish water, and it reaches its rated 10,500 GPD at a test pressure of only 150 PSI.
With 400 square feet of active membrane area, the BW 400 ES L delivers a stabilized salt rejection of 99.6%, with a guaranteed minimum of 99.5%. Because it runs at a lower feed pressure, pumping energy drops. The lower differential pressure and good fouling resistance also mean plants can expect fewer cleanings, less chemical use, and fewer membrane replacements, which together lower the total cost of owning the system.
LG's NanoH2O brackish water membranes are in service with major utilities and industrial users worldwide. The BW 400 ES L suits industrial process water, municipal drinking water, and water reuse systems. It fits a standard 8-inch pressure vessel and tolerates feed pressure up to 600 PSI, temperatures up to 113°F, and a continuous pH range of 2 to 11, so it can drop into existing 8040 systems or anchor a new one.
